Deep Fried Cheese
250g (8 oz) Cheddar Cheese - Rectangular shaped block
Flour
Bread Crumbs (i.e. Goldenfry Golden Breadcrumbs)
2 Eggs
Milk
Slice cheese into sticks about 1 inch thick and 3 inches long. A rectangular
250g (8 oz) block of cheese should make 10-12 sticks.
Set up two bowls and two saucers. Whisk the eggs together in one of the
bowls. Put a small amount of milk in the other bowl. Fill one saucer up with
some flour, and the other heaping with breadcrumbs. Season the bread crumbs
well. First, dip a stick of cheese
into the milk. Next, roll it around in the flour. Coat well, but shake off
excess flour. With your right hand, dip the flour coated cheese in the egg.
Be sure the ends of the stick have a coating of egg.
Let excess egg run off, but make sure it is still completely coated in egg.
Firmly press the egg-coated cheese into the bread crumbs. With your left hand,
scoop bread crumbs over the top. Press these in firmly. Be sure to press
bread crumbs into the ends. Your left hand should be your "clean"
hand. You will ocassionally need to wash the batter off your right hand.
It's like glue!
Basically, dip in this order:
- Milk
- Flour
- Egg
- Bread Crumbs
Cook in 180C (350F) oil for about two minutes or until done. Watch them carefully,
if overcooked they will make a mess of your oil.
Practice makes these better...
